Lorenzo Musetti Wimbledon Odds: Italian 5/1 to beat Novak Djokovic; 22/1 to win maiden Grand Slam

Lorenzo Musetti advanced to his first Grand Slam semi-final with a stunning five-set victory over Taylor Fritz and we've priced the Italian at 5/1 to defeat seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic on Friday.

25th seed Musetti, who was the 7/2 underdog prior in his quarter-final encounter with American Fritz, delivered a catalogue of breathtaking shots to blow his opponent away in a deciding set and reach the final four at the All England Club.

His success on No.1 Court saw his Outright odds cut to 22/1, though the 22-year-old remains the biggest price of the remaining four competitors.

That he is still competing vying for glory at this stage of the tournament is an achievement within itself. Musetti's first two appearances at Wimbledon were brief affairs, losing in straight sets to both Hubert Hurkacz in 2021 and Fritz in 2022.

Many considered him to be solely a clay-court player and Musetti's performances on the surface were vastly superior to his record on hard and grass. He won his maiden ATP Tour title on clay in the Hamburg Open 500, but just three months he proved he could mix it with the elite players on hard courts, landing the Napoli Cup with victory over compatriot Matteo Berrettini in the final.

After posting a 0-3 record on grass in 2022, Musetti began to make inroads on the surface in 2023. He reached two grass-court quarter-finals at Stuttgart and Queen's Club before progressing to the third round at Wimbledon, where he was again eliminated by Hurkacz.

2024 had been a difficult year for Musetti. The Italian had more losses than victories in the calendar year and with the grass-court season on the horizon, few would have anticipated his fortunes improving.

Yet here we are, into the business end of Wimbledon and it is Musetti who is the sole remaining Italian in the men's singles, not world number one Jannik Sinner.

Musetti's become an increasing force on grass and his improvement has been remarkable. Prior to 2024, his competitive win-loss record on the surface was 9-8; this year he's won 12 and lost two.

His Wimbledon preparations saw him progress to the final at Queen's Club, where he was denied a third title by an in-form Tommy Paul, and Musetti has transferred his slick and aggressive style to the courts of the All England Club.

He'd been made to work for all of his four victories so far at Wimbledon - the Tuscany-born ace required a deciding set to conquer Luciano Darderi in the second round - but the five-set triumph over Fritz was a momentous occasion in Musetti's fledgling career.

His reward for the quarter-final win is a date with the most decorated player in tennis on Centre Court.

Musetti has already conquered Djokovic once in his career, albeit on his preferred clay surface.

The Italian came from a set down to triumph in the Monte Carlo Masters and most recently, Musetti forced the Serbian to a deciding set in their French Open third round meeting before eventually succumbing to defeat.

Encountering Djokovic on a grass-court is an entirely different beast, however, and with the 24-time Grand Slam title receiving a walkover following Alex de Minaur's withdrawal in the quarter-finals, Musetti must deliver a near-perfect performance if he is to have any chance of realising his ultimate goal.
