Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is Napoli's 'dream target' in the summer transfer window.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano took to 'X' to reiterate the fact that Darwin Nunez remains Napoli’s priority and dream target as centre striker."

It's said that the "club won’t advance on different options until they’ve a chance to get Nunez" from Liverpool, with talks to continue "next week in order to understand how/if transfer fee and salary can be feasible."

The Uruguayan centre forward joined the Reds from Benfica for a then club record signing of €85.00m, having impressed in the 2021/22 term.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool got a taste of Nunez when facing up against the Portuguese side in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final that campaign, with the striker scoring in both legs as Liverpool advanced 6-4 on aggregate.

However, the 25 year old has struggled to replicate such form in England, recording double figures in goals in just one of his three Premier League terms.

While he’s struggled to become a mainstay in both Jurgen Klopp’s and Arne Slot’s Liverpool XI, he has displayed signs of quality in a Red shirt.

Match-winning goals against Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Newcastle in recent campaigns, it's clear to see why Antonio Conte and Napoli admire the number nine.

With regards to the Uruguayan’s price tag, it’s hard to see Liverpool letting Nunez go for anything less than €50m, which would still see the Reds cut their losses.

Having introduced club record signing Florian Wirtz, right-back Jeremie Frimpong, and the arrival of Milos Kerkez imminent, it’s set to be a costly summer for Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group, and sales will be pivotal to how much extra business they can do.

Irrespective of Nunez’s contributions in the most recent season, he will need replacing, with Italian outlets suggesting Napoli’s Victor Osimhen could be of interest.
