Liverpool v Manchester City stats and head-to-head record (H2H)

Ominously for Manchester City, the away team has only prevailed in this fixture, in the Premier League, on one occasion since 2016.

That came back in February 2021 when the Citizens registered an emphatic 4-1 success at Anfield courtesy of goals from Ilkay Gundogan (x2), Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture earlier this season, whilst Liverpool were 1-0 victors the last time the two sides met in the league on Merseyside.

Unsurprisingly, the top two sides have taken maximum spoils from their last three outings, but Manchester City will arguably be in more buoyant mood after dispatching their city rivals Manchester United in impressive fashion last time out.

Liverpool have been hamstrung by injuries over the past month or so, and were thankful to a controversial Darwin Nunez goal, in the ninth minute of injury time, for the three points they collected from the City ground, against Nottingham Forest, last weekend.

Liverpool v Manchester City team news

Liverpool team news

Jurgen Klopp has endured huge injury misfortune of late, but things do finally be starting to turn around for the German boss.

Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai both made impactful returns from the bench against Nottingham Forest last time out, and both could return to the starting line-up on Sunday, whilst Mohamed Salah, who was injured whilst in action for Egypt in January, could be available.

Ryan Gravenberch, meanwhile, who was injured in the EFL Cup Final against Chelsea, could also return to action this weekend, although Klopp is still without the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Allison, Diogo Jota and Thiago.

Manchester City team news

Pep Guardiola by contrast appears to boast the luxury of a relatively clean bill of health.

Jack Grealish seems to be the only absentee for the visitors this weekend, after aggravating a previous groin issue in the recent 6-2 FA Cup success over Luton Town.
