Liverpool reject Bayern Munich's official bid for Luis Diaz

Reports suggest that Liverpool have emphatically rejected an official bid from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz.

David Ornstein of The Athletic took to 'X' to break the news that Bayern Munich's proposal worth "€67.5m" has been "immediately rejected" by Liverpool, with the Reds valuing the winger at "€100m" and having informed suitors of "no plans to sell."

Ornstein added that the Colombian has made it "clear" that he "wants to leave", however, so it'd be no surprise to see the Bavarians return with a second bid.

Earlier in the window it was reported that the Reds had turned away an approach from Barcelona for the Colombian, and the club’s perspective on the situation doesn’t seem to have changed.

The 28-year-old has just two years left on his contract in Merseyside, and Paul Joyce of The Times suggested weeks ago that “Liverpool have shown little inclination to offer him a new contract.”

While Diaz's stance on the situation at the time was unclear, recent reports indicate that the forward is seeking a move away from Merseyside.

It's not just Barcelona and Bayern Munich who share an interest in the winger, with Saudi Pro League outfit Al Nassr allegedly “viewing Diaz as their top winger target,” according to respected journalist Ben Jacobs.

With that said, it’s common knowledge that “it would take a crazy offer now for Liverpool to reconsider what is a firm and consistent not-for-sale position,” having already rejected two formal approaches.

It seems the gap in valuation between Liverpool and Bayern Munich is sizeable, but the Reds have rarely been a team that have kept a player against their will, proven by the reluctant sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in 2018.

Despite rejecting a first bid for Diaz, Liverpool will no doubt be scouring the market for forward players, having already signed Florian Wirtz who is expected to occupy the attacking midfield role.

A long summer awaits the Reds, and a growing list of departures could be set to emerge, with Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott among those with uncertain futures.
