Liverpool not 'actively looking to sell' Luis Diaz amid transfer talks

Reports suggest that Liverpool are not attempting to offload Luis Diaz this summer amid transfer talks.

Premier League 2025/26

In what has already proved an active transfer window for Liverpool, reports had emerged that Al Nassr are prepared to pay upwards of €80m for Luis Diaz.

Paul Joyce of The Times has since shed light on Liverpool’s stance with the Colombian winger.

He said:

Liverpool have received no expressions of interest in Luis Díaz and are not actively looking to sell the Colombia forward.

“Liverpool are understood to be perplexed by the noise once again surrounding Diaz.”

While Joyce claims that Liverpool are not pushing for the sale of Diaz, he also stated that “Liverpool have no plans to open talks with Diaz" over the renewal of a new contract.

A day after Joyce broke the news that Diaz was not for sale, David Ornstein of The Athletic confirmed that the Reds had received, and turned down an approach from Barcelona.

Liverpool have rebuffed an approach from Barcelona to discuss signing Luis Diaz, telling the champions of La Liga he is not for sale.

Diaz has two years left on his existing contract at Liverpool, which would take him to 30 years old.

It seems as though contract negotiations have been a major talking point when referring to Liverpool in recent months.

While the Premier League champions were able to tie down Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to further deals, they did lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants eventually paying £10m to secure his services for the Club World Cup.

Liverpool may want to avoid the risk of entering the final year of Diaz’s contract with no desire to keep the player, potentially losing the winger on a free contract.

While they may opt to keep the Colombian for a further campaign and sell for what would expectedly be a lower fee in the next summer transfer window, a decision on Diaz’s future is anticipated in the coming months.

Liverpool face a similar situation with Ibrahima Konate ahead of the start of the 2025/26 campaign, with just a year remaining on the French central defender’s contract. Al Hilal and Paris Saint Germain are reported admirers of Konate, and the Reds may be tempted to sell should they lack encouragement that he will put pen to paper on a new contract.
