Dominik Szoboszlai was subbed off in the first half of Liverpool's 2-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League due to injury.
Szoboszlai, a running machine who is rarely unavailable for Liverpool, was sidelined for the Reds' 3-0 loss against Manchester City in gameweek 6 and missed their 6-3 win over LASK in the UEFA Champions League due to a hamstring injury.
He returned to Andoni Iraola's starting XI when his side made the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium at the weekend, but he was replaced by Trey Nyoni in the 31st minute of the contest, much to the frustration of the travelling Reds.
We take a look at when the midfielder could be in line to feature after another fitness setback.
While Szoboszlai's injury isn't as serious as first feared, there are doubts over his involvement when Liverpool welcome Villarreal to Anfield in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
Iraola provided an update on his condition. He said:
“It’s not a new injury, I think it’s in the same place it was probably last week. He hasn’t worsened the injury but probably we have to be a little bit more patient until he recovers fully.
“But it’s not like something now where he has to wait a lot of time to come back, he is more or less in the same situation he was last week.
“But we need more patience with him, but I appreciate the effort he did the other day, to be available, to want to contribute in a very difficult game that you know is going to be very physical – [against] one of the most physical teams, Brentford."
Having been unable to continue in West London on Saturday, the midfielder is expected to miss Liverpool's European clash in midweek.
Iraola's comments on needing to be more patient with the Hungarian suggest that Sunday's Premier League contest against high-flying Brighton may also come too soon, but an update on his availability in gameweek 8 is expected later in the week.
