Liverpool have completed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal.
Just hours after it was confirmed Real Madrid have paid £10m to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in time to play in the Club World Cup, the Premier League champions have confirmed they have activated the release clause for the 24-year-old.
The Dutch right-back, who came through the youth ranks at Manchester City, is widely regarded as the perfect natural replacement for Alexander-Arnold and this is a huge early statement of intent from Arne Slot's side, especially considering the champions are also reportedly closing in on Florian Wirtz.
Frimpong played an instrumental part in helping Bayer Leverkusen win a first Bundesliga title during the 2023/24 campaign and has been an ever-present for the German outfit as they finished runners-up to Bayern Munich this season.
And with Conor Bradley recently extending his stay at Anfield, it looks as though right-back is not going to be a concern for the Reds as they continue to build a side that will be looking to defend its Premier League title in 2025/26.
Frimpong joins an extremely strong Dutch contingent of Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and captain Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.
