Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly amongst several Premier League clubs interested in signing Malick Fofana.
According to reports from David Ornstein, it is Chelsea who currently lead the race for the Belgian's signature with the Blues opening talks with his current club Lyon.
Ornstein wrote on X: "Chelsea make verbal enquiry to Lyon regarding Malick Fofana. 20yo #OlympiqueLyonnais winger among multiple options #CFC considering amid Jadon Sancho exit.
"Nothing advanced for Belgium international but discussions continue."
Fofana joined the French side from his boyhood club Gent just last season for a fee of €19.5m.
The Belgian international enjoyed an impressive debut season, contributing to 16 goals and assists in all competitions.
Seven of Fofana's 16 came in the UEFA Europa League where he netted six goals in just five starts - including a decisive brace against FCSB.
Years | Team | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2022-2023 | Jong Gent | 13 | 4 | - |
2022-2024 | Gent | 64 | 5 | 10 |
2024- | Lyon | 62 | 15 | 7 |
As well as Chelsea and Liverpool, Nottingham Forest are also in the hunt for Fofana's signature.
Nuno Espirito Santo's side improved dramatically to finish seventh in the Premier League last season and with Conference League football in the bag for 2025/26, the signing of Fofana would be a statement of intent.
Transfermarkt value the winger at €30m and it's easy to see why with the 20-year-old making his senior Belgium debut against Italy in October of last year.
Fans of Manchester United may recall Fofana's impressive cameo at Old Trafford during the Europa League quarter-final earlier this year.
Brought on in the 64th minute, his immense dribbling ability caught the eye and his introduction to the game coincided with two Lyon goals.
When compared to his positional peers across Europe's top five leagues, Fofana ranks in the top two-percent for progressive carries; serving to add context to his impressive on-the-ball abilities.
