LIV Golf is set to continue into 2027 following months of speculation about its future.
The breakaway golf league saw its funding withdrawn by the Saudi Public Investment Fund back in April, jeopardising its future beyond the 2026 season.
But funding appears to have been secured for 2027 to keep the league running for another 12 months, albeit with significant changes.
LIV Golf currently runs 14 events per season. This will be scaled back to 10, though the five events in the USA will remain on the schedule, meaning four international events will be lost. Given the locality of some of the LIV teams, the United Kingdom, Spain, South Africa, Australia and South Korea look to be the remaining international events.
LIV's $30m prize fund per event is also expected to be scaled back to $20m and possibly as low as $15m.
In a statement released on Wednesday ahead of its New York event in Bedminster, CEO Scott O'Neil said: "LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players.
"We're also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.
"Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league, and gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide.
"We anticipate finalizing terms in the coming weeks, with the goal of entering a transaction in September.
"In the meantime, our focus is on delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster and finishing the 2026 season strong."
