Manchester United fear Lisandro Martinez may be out for the rest of the season after the central defender sustained a serious knee injury in the defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Argentina international was carried off on a stretcher during the second half of Sunday's Premier League encounter at Old Trafford with a suspected anterior cruciate ligament tear.
It's another major setback for Ruben Amorim, who has already encountered a multitude of issues since inheriting the Manchester United hotseat and Martinez's injury only compounds their woes.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim said: "He's (Martinez) not just a great player but a strong character in the dressing room. Let’s hope for better days for him and we are here like I said to help him in this difficult moment."
Such is the severity of the injury, Martinez is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign and may not be fully fit for the start of the subsequent season.
The time of recovery for an ACL tear is typically eight months, although there are several instances where a player may recover in six months.
Next season's Premier League will commence on Saturday 16th August.
