Ligue 1 Weekend preview: PSG to shine despite Neymar absence

Ligue 1 resumes on Sunday, with the top two in Lens and Paris Saint-Germain due to meet at 19:45.

Before that, Lyon look to boost their European hopes at home to struggling Clermont, while there are four games on Sunday, including Marseille's trip to Montpellier.

All the games are available on our European Soccer Live Streaming Highlights, with it set to be a thrilling round 17.

Lyon look good to best Clermont

What: Lyon v Clermont Foot, Ligue 1
Where: Groupama Stadium
When: 16:00, Sunday 1st January
How to watch: European Soccer Live Streaming Highlights
Odds: Lyon 9/20, Draw 15/4, Clermont Foot 11/2

Lyon are one of those teams who never seem to be able to generate any real consistency, currently eighth in the table and 7/1 To Finish in Top 3.

In their last six games, Les Gones have won three, drawn one and lost two but will feel they can add a fourth win to that tally against a Clermont team winless in six and starting to look over their shoulder.

They now sit 11th in the table and are starting to look below them as they prepare for their two hour trip east to the Groupama Stadium.

Les Lanciers returned from the World Cup break with a 2-0 home defeat to Lille and have won only once on the road since August.

In contrast, Lyon have won five of their eight home games and conceded only six times in the process. They resumed with a 4-2 win at Brest, a match in which Alexandre Lacazette netted for the second time in three outings.

The former Arsenal striker is 6/4 in the Anytime Goalscorer market and that becomes more tempting when you see his side are 3/1 To Score a Penalty. Lacazette netted from the spot at Brest, while Clermont have conceded penalties in two of their last three outings.

PSG to extend lead even without Neymar

What: Lens v Paris Saint-Germain, Ligue 1
Where: Stade Bollaert-Delelis
When: 19:45, Sunday 1st January
How to watch: European Soccer Live Streaming Highlights
Odds: Lens 9/4, Draw 13/5, PSG 6/5

The top two meet at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis with both in fine form. PSG are unbeaten this season, while hosts Lens have avoided defeat in their last six.

Les Sang et Or, Ligue 1 champions in 1997/98, have slowly rebuilt over recent years and look set for a Champions League finish this season at 1/2.

Their home form has been crucial, winning eight out of eight, conceding only once in their last five on their own patch.

They also share the best defensive record in the league with just 10 goals conceded. That's the same as PSG who have also netted a league-best 45 goals this term, 13 better than any other team and 19 more than Lens.

Neymar has netted 11 of those but will miss Sunday's match after receiving two yellow cards in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Strasbourg.

Kylian Mbappe's late penalty made the difference in that match and he is 10/1 to Score Two or More Goals as part one of bet365's Bet Boosts, having previously been 17/2.

In fact, bet365 are offering a treble of Mbappe to Score at Anytime in the Match, Match Result will be PSG and Both Teams to Score in the Match - Yes. That was 11/2 and has now been boosted to 13/2.

The 24-year-old's incredible talent means that is more than possible but recent history suggests it could be a tighter content, with the last two meetings finishing 1-1.

Lens are actually unbeaten at home against PSG since returning to Ligue 1 and are sure to push Les Parisiens, especially with Neymar unavailable.

The Pas-de-Calais outfit have scored Exactly 1 Goal in the pair's last six meetings, available at 6/4, but may not have enough to match the reigning champions who are 3/1 in the Result/Both Teams to Score market and should extend their lead to 10 points.

Expect excitement at the Mosson

What: Montpellier v Marseille, Ligue 1
Where: Stade de la Mosson
When: 18:00, Monday 2nd January
How to watch: BT Sport 1 and European Soccer Live Streaming Highlights
Odds: Marseille 16/5, Draw 14/5, Marseille 4/5

Marseille head along the coast to Montpellier with both sides in encouraging form.

Twelfth-placed Montpellier resumed with Thursday's 2-0 win at Lorient to make it three unbeaten but all of those games have featured under 2.5 goals, an outcome that is 11/10 in the Total Goals market.

However, that has been in contrast to Marseille's recent form who have won their last three and have seen 13 goals across that time.

Sead Kolasinac has scored in their last two matches and is a possible value call at 11/1 in the Anytime Goalscorer market.

Marseille have had the advantage in this rivalry in recent years, not losing any of the pair's last seven meetings in all competitions and triumphed 3-2 in this fixture last term.

In fact, both teams have scored in the last five meetings to be played at the Stade de la Mosson, an outcome that is 4/6 in the Both Teams to Score market.

Goals in the game will probably suit Marseille more and while Montpellier are improving, they remain 16 points shy of their visitors on Sunday.

An away win and both to score is available at 12/5 in the Result/Both Teams to Score market, while a Marseille success and over four goals in the match is 6/1 with the Bet Builder.
