Lewis Edmondson’s aspirations to reach the top really showed when accepting a fight with 6ft 6ins Daniel Lapin on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois 2 at Wembley, without as much as a second thought.

Winning the Londsdale belt in an impressive victory over Dan Azeez in October 2024, Edmondson now has until the end of October to face mandatory challenger Ezra Taylor.

His attention will now turn to the Ukrainian, with a packed Wembley Stadium awaiting the pair in July.

While very little separates Edmondson and Lapin in regards to their records, both 11-0, the Southampton-born 29 year old fancies his chances in what is set to be a fascinating contest.

He spoke to Boxing News about the reasoning behind taking the fight.

“A lot of British names – some good, solid fighters – turned this opportunity down. [Lapin’s] a good fighter, but I’m in boxing for these big fights.

I’m built different to these other fighters, and I believe that I’m destined for the stars, so why not prove to everyone how good I am?

“We’re here to chase greatness, and how are you ever going to know [how good you are] if you’re not taking these risks?

“I could’ve either waited around until October to fight Ezra Taylor, or been in a massive fight on a historic card at Wembley Stadium. I’d never turn down an opportunity like that.

If Lapin’s imposing 6ft 6ins build wasn’t intimidating enough, the Ukrainian also trains with undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Edmondson is determined not to let that impact his outlook on the fight, however.

“I’m not fighting Usyk. I’m fighting Daniel Lapin," he added.

“Obviously [Usyk’s influence is] going to bring him on, the same way I spend a lot of time with Billy Joe Saunders in camps.

“I’m fighting for my family’s future. I want to build a legacy for myself, and if I beat Daniel Lapin – and put on a great display – who knows what opportunities could arise?

“This is what dreams are made of, and this win will go in the history books.”
