Rob Tebbutt provides his best bets for this weekend's all-Irish welterweight showdown as Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan get set to lock-horns at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.
Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan meet in an all-Irish welterweight cracker in Belfast this weekend, with the winner set to move on and challenge for a world title at 147lbs.
The bout pits the silky southpaw skills of Donovan against the hard-punching Crocker in one of the most keenly-anticipated, 50-50 match-ups in the Irish boxing history.
While it is difficult to split each man, I do lean towards the more technical Donovan to just be enough to edge things.
At his best, ‘The Real Deal’ also possesses respectable punching power and he’ll need it to keep Crocker off of him.
In my opinion, Crocker’s best chance of victory is to work the body of Donovan and look to make his size and strength a factor in the later rounds.
For Crocker backers, a stoppage between rounds 7-12 @ 15/4 may be your best shot.
However, my money will be with Donovan this weekend.
I feel the Limerick man just has a little more guile and skill to his work and, while I can see some of the later rounds being in Crocker’s favour, I’m backing Donovan to emerge victorious on the night.
