Leon Edwards fans don't have much longer to wait to see Rocky back in the Octagon, with his next fight finally confirmed.
After making his UFC debut in 2014, Edwards has only lost one fight - to future champion Kamaru Usman, and has won 12 of his last 13 fights (with one no contest).
Edwards was well on his way to a title shot before a series of Covid-related delays kept him out of the Octagon for nearly two years before his no contest with Belal Muhammad. Edwards then comfortably out-pointed Nate Diaz, finally getting his shot with Usman.
Well behind on the scorecards, Edwards pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, knocking Usman out with a stunning head kick, winning the trilogy fight by decision the following year.
Edwards then beat Colby Covington in December 2023, with his next title defence finally confirmed.
Dana White confirmed via a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Edwards would defend his UFC welterweight title against Belal Muhammad at UFC 304.
While Muhammad's fighting style hasn't won him many fans (11 of his 12 wins in the UFC have come via decision), his record (23-3) makes him a prime candidate for a title shot. Kamaru Usman lost twice to Edwards before stepping up to middleweight, losing to Khamzat Chimaev, while the fight is probably one too soon for Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Muhammad's previous fight with Edwards was stopped prematurely due to an eye poke.
Leon Edwards will face Belal Muhammad on 27th July at UFC 304, as confirmed by Dana White on 16th May.
