Leicester City officially relegated to the Championship

Leicester City have been officially relegated to the Championship following a 1-0 defeat to leaders Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Premier League

Optimism was high at the King Power Stadium after Leicester City won the Championship title last season, but the Foxes have really struggled to adapt to life in the top-flight.

Manager Steve Cooper replaced Chelsea bound Enzo Maresca in the summer, but he was dismissed after 12 league games with the club just one point above the bottom three.

Despite starting his reign with a 3-1 win over West Ham, it has been a disappointing four months in charge for current manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

A lack of goals has been a real problem throughout the campaign for Leicester City, underlined by the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool breaking an unwanted record of the Foxes becoming the first top-flight side to go nine games without scoring a home league goal.

The writing has been on the wall for a number of weeks and preparations will undoubtedly be underway already as Leicester City plot an instant return to the Premier League by trying to win promotion next season.
