Leeds United on course to break club record with Championship promotion in sight

Leeds United took an enormous stride closer to a Premier League return following a 1-0 win against Oxford United on Good Friday and are now on the brink of breaking a club record.

Championship

Manor Solomon's first half goal proved decisive at the Kassam Stadium as Leeds made it three wins in a row to maintain their five-point buffer over Sheffield United in third.

Daniel Farke's outfit can achieve automatic promotion as early as Easter Monday providing they overcome Stoke City at Elland Road and Burnley deny the Blades victory at Turf Moor.

Irrespective of their rivals' results, Leeds know four points from their remaining three matches will see them dining in the Premier League once again.

Assessing Leeds' strong position in the division after the Oxford triumph, Farke said: “We’ve had back-to-back-to-back wins which have put us in a good position but nothing is done yet.

You have to fight for each and every point in this league and all the upcoming games will be difficult. This league is relentless.

The win over Oxford saw Leeds surpass last year's total of 90 points and reach 91 points for only the second time in the club's history.

While promotion is the ultimate objective, Farke may take great satisfaction in breaking the points record which was set by Marcelo Bielsa's side in 2019/20.

The Argentine masterminded Leeds' return to the top-flight by chalking up 93 points and Farke's men just require one win from their concluding three matches to exceed that total.

Leeds have been an extremely difficult outfit to topple this term and their tally of four losses is the fewest number of defeats a Leeds team has suffered in a single campaign since the Division One winning side of 1991/92.

There is also the mathematical possibility of the Whites joining the century club at the end of the campaign.

Three wins will see the Whites reach the 100-point mark and join an exclusive list of teams to achieve 100 points in a Championship season, with only six sides accomplishing the feat.
