Lee Carsley signs new deal with the FA

England U21 head coach Lee Carsley has signed a new deal with the FA that is set to run until 2027.

Since taking over as interim manager of the England national team on 9th August 2024, Lee Carsley has become a relatively well-known figure in English football.

Once Thomas Tuchel was permanently handed the role, Carsley returned to manage England U21s, and he is set to remain with the FA until 2027 after recently signing a new contract.

Carsley spoke to the BBC on his future and the decision behind renewing with the FA amid speculation surrounding what was next for the 51-year-old.

When questioned on taking up a role elsewhere within the FA, he responded: "I'll just see how it goes. I think it's important that I just do a good job.

"I am just trying to do it again [win the Euros]. The priority is the Euros and I won't be taking my eye off of that."

Carsley led England U21s to European Championship glory in 2023, and he will hope to retain the honour in the upcoming competition set to start on Wednesday 11th June.

Sunderland's Dennis Cirkin, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Tottenham Hotspur's Dane Scarlett are reportedly set to miss the tournament through injury, but Carsley hopes to have the likes of Liam Delap and Jobe Bellingham available despite talks of a potential transfer.

He added: "We have room within our schedule to make sure that they get a chance if they need to have a medical or they need to speak to a club.

"Liam (Delap) is one of two or three players who we are supporting with that at the moment.

"Ideally I want them here, of course I do. You want your strongest squad but we have to put the players first and that is definitely what we are doing."
