League Two playoffs 2024: Dates, fixtures and teams

The League Two playoffs provide four teams with the opportunity to win a place in League One next season.

The teams who finish 4th - 7th in League Two can join the three automatically promoted clubs in the third tier courtesy of the post-season drama that only the playoffs can bring.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the 2023/24 League Two Playoffs.

What are the League Two Playoffs?

The teams that finish fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in League Two contest a post-season knockout tournament.

Two-legged semi-finals are contested as the team that finishes fourth plays the team that finishes seventh, while the fifth-placed team take on the sixth-placed team.

The two winners of the semi-finals then meet in the final, with the winner gaining promotion to League One.

When are the 2024 League Two Playoffs?

The 2023/2024 League Two playoffs will take place in May, with the regular season finishing on Saturday 27th April 2024.

The semi-final first legs will take on Monday 6th May, with the return legs taking place on Thursday 9th May and Friday 10th May.

The League Two playoff final will be held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 19th May 2024, with the kick-off time yet to be confirmed.

The League Two playoffs will be live on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event.

2023/24 League Two Playoff fixtures

  • Monday 6th May - Semi-Final 1 and 2 first-legs (7th v 4th and 6th v 5th)
  • Thursday 9th May - Semi Final 1 (4th v 7th), second-leg
  • Friday 10th May - Semi-Final 2 (5th v 6th), second-leg
  • Sunday 19th May - Final

Which teams will be in the League Two Playoffs?

The race for automatic promotion is still wide open as a cluster of teams battle it out for a top three spot.

Mansfield, Stockport and Wrexham are in the driving seat but any slip ups will see them drop into the playoffs.

The likes of MK Dons, Crewe and Barrow look set for a playoff place at least, with half a dozen teams set to scrap over seventh place.

Who won the League Two Playoffs in 2022/23?

After beating Bradford City and Salford in their respective semi-finals, Carlisle met Stockport in the final for a place in League One.

The game finished 1-1 and it was Carlisle who prevailed 5-4 on penalties to win promotion.
