League Two best-backed teams and players

Chesterfield and MK Dons are the most popular selections with bet365 customers to win the 2024/25 League Two title.

On the betting in League Two, bet365's Steve Freeth said: "We’ve seen more difference of opinion with 28% of the market being on the returning Chesterfield, with Paul Cook adding quality to his squad.

"As much as I respect the Spireites it’s MK Dons that get my vote this season under Mike Williamson as they look to get back on track after the play-off humiliation against Crawley.

"Liam Kelly scored the first goal for Crawley in the two-legged 8-1 defeat and it’s signings like that that have me thinking it’s their time under an impressive manager – our customers agree with 25.9% of bets being placed on the Dons.

"Notts County may have lost the prolific Macaulay Langstaff but punters believe the League Two Top Scorer crown will be staying in Nottingham with Alassana Jatta being supported from 50/1 into 16/1."

Chesterfield won the National League title at a canter last term and 28% of punters are backing the Spireites to follow in the footsteps of Wrexham in securing back-to-back promotions.

Under the stewardship of former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook, Chesterfield have added a wealth of Football League experience to a talented cohort of players.

Interestingly, no club that were crowned National League champions have won the League Two title in the following year. Carlisle United were the last team to win promotion back into the Football League before finishing top of League Two, though they achieved promotion from the Conference Premier via the play-offs.

MK Dons are another popular selection in the League Two outright market.

Languishing in 18th prior to the appointment of Mike Williamson, MK Dons enjoyed a stellar revival under the ex-Newcastle United defender until their campaign come to an abrupt halt after Crawley inflicted a devastating 8-1 aggregate defeat in the play-off semi-finals.

The Dons look primed to bounce back from their hammering and their forays in the transfer market have been impressive, luring individuals from League One to join their promotion cause.

Doncaster, who strung together a remarkable 10-match winning run to achieve an unlikely play-off berth last term, are fancied by 15.1% of customers as Grant McCann looks to carry their rich vein of form into the new campaign.

In the Top Goalscorer market, the departure of Langstaff to Millwall means Andy Cook is the favourite to win the award and just under a tenth of bets placed are backing the Bradford veteran to replicate his 2022/23 campaign where he scored 28 league goals.

Notts County's Jatta is the most popular selection in the market, with the Gambian forward notching up five goals in 10 League Two appearances following his move from Danish outfit Viborg in February.
