Saturday's League One preview: Plymouth face Trotters test

There are four League One games scheduled on Saturday with table-toppers Plymouth in action when they head to promotion hopefuls Bolton.

All four fixtures are scheduled to get underway at 15:00 and they could potentially have implications at both ends of the table.

Relegation candidates Cambridge and Morecambe each feature on home soil as they host Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham respectively.

Meanwhile, Charlton will be hoping to build further momentum when they welcome a struggling Lincoln side to The Valley.

Bolton have been in and around the playoff places all season and have sat inside the top-six since beating Fleetwood on 19th November.

Ian Evatt's side trail Saturday's opponents Plymouth, who top the standings, by 16 points, while they are 12 adrift of second-placed Sheffield Wednesday, although they have a game in hand on both of them.

Challenging for a top-two spot isn't entirely off the agenda but they are still looking over their shoulder with several teams looking to force their way into the playoff picture.

Bolton's home form has been key to helping them secure a lofty position in the table, collecting 24 points on their own patch, while they've conceded just eight goals.

However, that record will be put to the test on Saturday when Plymouth make the long journey north.

Steve Schumacher's side have only tasted defeat on three occasions this term and only once in their last 21 League One engagements.

It's worth noting that two of their three losses have come on the road and they tend to be much stronger on home soil, earning 36 of their 56 points at Home Park.

Shutting teams out has also been problematic for the Pilgrims on the road, conceding 17 goals in contrast to the nine they have shipped when hosting.

That should offer hope to Bolton and leads to the feeling that the hosts will find a way to goal against Plymouth. However, an away win with both teams to score, priced at 11/2 in the Result/Both Teams to Score market, stands out.

Bristol Rovers head into Saturday's clash with Cambridge sitting 11th and looking up the table with just a six point gap to the playoff places.

After losing successive games to end 2022, Rovers returned to winning ways when hosting Cheltenham on New Year's Day.

Joey Barton's side picked up just two wins from their opening nine games, losing six, but have since found their feet and have only tasted defeat on a further three occasions over the following 15.

Adding another victory to their tally looks well within reach on Saturday when they host a Cambridge side with relegation concerns.

Cambridge are 19th and just two points clear of the drop zone after losing back-to-back games.

Mark Bonner's men have already lost once to Bristol Rovers this term, going down 2-1 in October's reverse fixture, while each of the last four meetings have gone the way of The Gas.

With that in mind, Bristol Rovers offer value at 13/10 in the Full Time Result market and it could be worthwhile backing Aaron Collins To Score Anytime at 6/4.

Collins is the joint-leading scorer in League One, netting 13 times, and he's found the back of the net in his last two appearances.

Morecambe are another club embroiled in a relegation battle but they have shown signs of life over recent weeks and look a good prospect in the Full Time Result market at 8/5

The Robins are six points above the bottom four after recent results took a downturn and a loss to rock-bottom Forest Green has alarm bells ringing.

That defeat came away from home and was their sixth loss of the campaign when featuring on the road.
