League One best-backed teams and players

15/8 favourites Birmingham City are the most popular selection with bet365 customers to win the 2024/25 League One title.

bet365 trading expert Steve Freeth said: "If you think 51.7% of bets on Leeds winning the Championship was eye-catching then what about the 53.7% on Birmingham City in League One!

"It was all doom and gloom for Blues not that long ago but the second city side haven’t wasted time in the transfer market with some wonderful pieces of recruitment.

"St Andrew’s will be rocking this season and they have landed a tried and trusted goalscorer in the form of Alfie May, who has course and distance form in the third tier.

"As a company, we really do not want the Leeds United/Birmingham City double landing!"

League One

Following a lavish transfer spree which is unprecedented at League One level, more than half of the bets placed on the League One outright winner market have backed Birmingham City to secure an immediate return to the Championship.

The Blues endured a tumultuous campaign which saw six different faces in the dugout and ultimately resulted in relegation on the final day of the season.

Despite the ignominy of dropping to the third tier for the first time since 1995, optimism around St Andrew's is at an all-time high and the club's owners have given new manager Chris Davies an abundance of tools to crack the division.

Bolton Wanderers are the second-most popular selection in the outright market as they look to avenge their play-off final heartbreak from last season.

Ian Evatt's outfit were one of the favourites to win promotion for much of the 2023/24 campaign, only to be pipped to second by Derby County before suffering defeat to Oxford United at Wembley in May.

Rotherham United and Wrexham have also been backed, with the latter aiming to create history by securing three consecutive promotions.

After chalking up 66 goals in his last three League One seasons for Cheltenham and Charlton, Alfie May makes the switch to title favourites Birmingham and there's an expectation that the 31-year-old will plunder in the goals at a ridiculous rate.

48.1% of bets placed on the Top Goalscorer market are backing May to claim the accolade for a second season running, though he does face immense competition from several prolific marksman in the shape of Jonson Clarke-Harris, Paul Mullin and Aaron Collins.
