Our resident boxing insider Rob Tebbutt previews this weekend's WBA women's welterweight world title bout between champion Lauren Price and challenger Bexcy Mateus, revealing where he feels the betting value can be found.
Lauren Price faces Bexcy Mateus in Liverpool on Saturday night, as she makes the first defence of her WBA welterweight title.
Price captured the belt with a dominant unanimous decision win over former super-lightweight queen Jessica McCaskill back in May, and she enters Saturday’s bout with Mateus an overwhelming favourite to retain her title.
The obvious point to consider here is Mateus will be making her first appearance outside of her homeland of Colombia - and her resume is as thin as you’d expect.
In her seven bouts, only one has been scheduled for eight rounds and only three of her opponents had a winning record.
Against an opponent as decorated and accomplished as Price, I can’t see Mateus being competitive and, despite early finishes being all-too-rare in the female code, I will be looking to Price to close the show early and win by stoppage.
