Latest Como v Manchester United weather update following postponement concerns

Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League fixture against Como is under threat of being postponed due to torrential rain and an orange weather alert in northern Italy's Lombardy region.

Michael Carrick's Red Devils are scheduled to encounter Serie A outfit Como at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Wednesday evening with kick-off set for 6:45pm local time (17:45 BST).

However, Italian authorities have issued an orange weather warning indicating a "potential dangerous situation" in the area, which has cast doubt as to whether the game will go ahead.

The Servizio Meteorologico have forecasted heavy rain and thunder to last from Wednesday afternoon until 2am local time on Thursday morning.

Will Como v Man Utd go ahead?

Como officials are confident the match will go ahead despite heavy rain in the region and the forecast for more showers during the clash.

United boss Carrick was also unfazed by the expected weather conditions, and when quizzed on his thoughts of a potential postponement, he replied: "No, nothing immediate from me, we're used to the rain. We'll make the most of it.”

While the players will be braced for a soaking, the fans in attendance will also need their waterproofs on with only one of the four stands at Como’s 12,039-capacity Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia being covered.

What happens if Como vs Man Utd is postponed?

In accordance to Article 27 in UEFA Champions League regulations, postponed matches are rescheduled for the following day.

UEFA says: “If it is decided on the day of a match that the match cannot start or cannot be played in full, the full or remaining match time is, as a rule, played the next day.”

However, there is an exception if the match cannot be rescheduled for the next day.

It adds: “If the match cannot be rescheduled for the next day, the UEFA administration fixes a new date. This may entail exceptions to the regular match calendar.”

What happens to my bet if a match is postponed?

An unplayed or postponed match will be treated as a non-runner for settling purposes unless it is played within five days of the original scheduled match time.
