Lando Norris wins first British Grand Prix at Silverstone

Lando Norris has delighted the home fans by winning his first ever British Grand Prix at a wet Silverstone on Sunday afternoon.

Max Verstappen started the race on pole position but in a race dominated by treacherous conditions and the safety car, he was passed by Oscar Piastri during lap eight and then started spinning after a restart on lap 21.

Piastri appeared to have a first British Grand Prix success in his hands, but he was handed a 10-second time penalty for a safety car infringement to give Norris the lead and he didn't look back as added his name to the list of British winners at Silverstone.

Norris, who was runner-up in the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in 2024, has not only fulfilled a lifetime ambition of winning his home race at the iconic Silverstone circuit but he has strengthened his chances of going one better in 2025.

Piastri, who ended up finishing second, was 15 points ahead of Norris in the standings ahead of this race and Sunday 6th July could prove to be a significant day in the battle for success this year.

There was jubilation in the Haas garage as Nico Hulkenberg, in his 239th race, achieved his first career podium by fending off home favourite Lewis Hamilton to finish third.

The German managed the interchangeable conditions perfectly to climb from 19th on the grid and finally end his 15-year hoodoo.
