In his sixth year in Formula One, Lando Norris finally made the breakthrough by claiming his first race victory at the Miami Grand Prix.
It took the British driver 110 races before taking the chequered flag first, but the signs have been good before that and now he is 11/8 to win 2+ races this season.
There are 18 tracks still to race during this campaign and Norris will hope his first win opens the floodgates to more success.
Norris’ victory in Miami made him just the third driver to win a race this season, with Max Verstappen and Red Bull continuing to dominate Formula One.
The only other race winner aside from the defending champion is Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr, who Norris has now leapfrogged in the standings - moving into fourth following his Florida success.
The 24-year-old is now 53 points behind Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship, but just 15 points behind third-placed Charles Leclerc.
Norris has now come into 50/1 to win the 2024 F1 title and can be backed at 7/1 in the 'Drivers' Championship Without Max Verstappen' market.
It was a significant victory for the man from Bristol, as he became the first driver this year to beat Verstappen in a straight fight and, potentially, show there might still be life in this Formula One season.
As for McLaren, they will be relieved to have claimed their first F1 race victory since 2021, when Daniel Ricciardo won the Italian Grand Prix.
McLaren endured some ups and downs in the lead-up to the race and luck did play a part in Norris’ victory in Florida.
The Briton was able to make his pit stop when a safety car had been deployed, whilst other cars had already stopped.
The big plus though was the fact that Norris had real pace in Miami and was the quickest car on the track during the second half of the race.
Prior to the Miami success, Norris had two other top-three finishes this season, after a third spot in Australia and a second place in China.
He recorded as many as six runner-up spots in the 2023 season, which included a second place in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Speaking after his win, Norris admitted: "I said at the beginning of the year we could win races. A lot of people doubted that, but I was confident.
"The team has done an amazing job. We weren’t even in Q2 last year; the fact we have won a race shows the team have done an insane job to go from there to where we are today."
The Formula One teams have a week off to prepare for their next race, which is the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on the 19th May.
This will be the fourth edition of the Imola race after last year's was cancelled due to floods in the local area.
Verstappen has won the last two Emilia Romagna races, but there have been some positive signs at the venue so far for Norris.
In 2020, the British ace finished eighth as compatriot Lewis Hamilton took the victory, before claiming a place on the podium in 2021 when securing third place.
Norris then followed that up with another third place in 2022, with the Bristolian 8/1 to win at Imola this time around.
