Kylian Mbappe wins 2024/25 European Golden Shoe

Kylian Mbappe has won the European Golden Shoe for the first time in his career after netting a brace in Real Madrid's final league game of the season.

Having already been soundly beaten by Barcelona to the La Liga title, Madrid hosted Real Sociedad on the final day with both sides not having a great deal to play for.

It didn't stop Mbappe from making his mark on the game, however, with the Frenchman tucking away his 30th and 31st league goals of the season.

Real Madrid ran out 2-0 victors with Mbappe becoming the first Los Blancos player to lift the European Golden Shoe since Cristiano Ronaldo.

Viktor Gyokeres finished runner-up despite his eclipsing goal total by eight.

Due to the weighted-points based system his 39-goal tally equates to 58.5 points, just shy of the 62-point haul accrued by Mbappe.

Goals scored by players competing in Europe's top-five leagues are awarded a points multiplier of 2 whilst goals scored by players in leagues ranked between 6th and 22nd get a multiplier of 1.5.

Mohamed Salah pipped Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski to third-spot but needed a hat-trick on the final day of the Premier League season to have any chance of sharing the award with Mbappe.

Harry Kane hit 26 goals in defence of his crown, but the Englishman won't be too bothered as he managed to lift the first silverware of his career - winning the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich.

2022/23 winner Erling Haaland could only manage a share of eighth with Manchester City teammate Omar Marmoush.

The Egyptian netted 15 Bundesliga goals before grabbing a further seven in the Premier League following his January move to the Etihad whilst Haaland's injury setbacks limited him to 31 league starts.
