Kobbie Mainoo England Odds: Manchester United midfielder 17/2 to score against Brazil

After receiving his maiden senior call-up, we've priced up Kobbie Mainoo at 17/2 to score on his England debut against Brazil on Saturday.

Mainoo's prodigious rise at Manchester United captured the attention of Gareth Southgate and after initially being selected to represent the Under-21s for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers, the teenager will instead team up with the senior squad for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

With Kalvin Phillips omitted and Trent Alexander-Arnold absent through injury, a lack of depth in central midfield may present Mainoo with an opportunity to feature in Saturday's encounter with Brazil at Wembley.

England v Brazil

Southgate initially resisted calls to include Mainoo in his squad, but after observing his exhilarating performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup, the England boss altered his thinking.

The central midfielder could potentially be a wildcard option for Southgate at Euro 2024, especially when you consider the selection issues he has in that department.

It was hoped Phillips' loan switch to West Ham would revive his career but the 28-year-old has struggled since his switch to the London Stadium. Mason Mount, so often a trusted ally in Southgate's ranks, has missed a large proportion of the campaign with a calf issue and is unlikely to be in the running for this summer's tournament.

Jordan Henderson aided his England prospects with a January switch to Ajax and while the former Liverpool captain boasts a strong relationship with Southgate, he is likely to be viewed as an alternative option from the bench.

Mainoo has proven himself to be no flash in the pan since making his first Premier League start in November.

Capitalising on Manchester United's injury woes, Mainoo earned the trust of Erik ten Hag and demonstrated he's capable of performing in a holding role or as a box-to-box midfielder.

He was influential in the Red Devils' dramatic 4-3 victory over Wolves at Molineux in February, scoring a divine solo goal to seal a vital victory for Ten Hag's men.

Goals are not typically in Mainoo's repertoire but the 18-year-old has delivered some of his best performances on the biggest occasions and he is 17/2 to get on the scoresheet against the Seleção on Saturday.

Picking up three yellow cards in 14 Premier League appearances, if Mainoo is to feature on Saturday, his duty will be to protect his backline against a flamboyant Brazilian attack and for those looking at the booking markets, he is 9/1 to receive a yellow card in the contest.
