Australian Football: Kiwi starlet joins Glory

Perth Glory’s recruitment drive has continued with the addition of young attacking midfielder Keegan Jelacic, who arrives from Brisbane Roar.

The 19-year-old came through the NPL Academy at Brisbane and made his way into the senior set up last season when he made two appearances.

Bags of potential

But it was the player’s spell with Olympic FC in the Queensland NPL this season that really caught the eye and brought him to the attention of Glory.

He made 10 appearances and scored nine goals, and head of recruitment Andy Keogh believes there is a lot more to come from Jelacic, who has also represented New Zealand at under-17 level.

“His ability to go either way and glide past players is a fantastic attribute and we know there is a lot of improvement still in him,” Keogh said. “Olympic FC must be given a lot of credit for getting him ready to make the step up into a professional environment again under the guidance of (coach) Ben Cahn.”

Cahn also believes that Glory have landed themselves a top talent after he penned a two-year deal.

“He’s got everything needed to succeed in the A-League, he’s got a great family behind him and I’m confident he’ll have a great impact at Perth Glory,” he added.

Jelacic excited

Jelacic is delighted to have completed the move and is excited to see what the future holds with Glory.

“I can’t wait to get started,” he said after penning his first professional contract. “I’d love to play as much football as possible next season and contribute to the team as much as I can.”
