Robert Whittaker v Khamzat Chimaev to headline first UFC show in Saudi Arabia on 22nd June

Khamzat Chimaev is set to face Robert Whittaker in a middleweight title eliminator contest to mark the first UFC show to take place in Saudi Arabia on 22nd June.

Chechen-born Chimaev - widely regarded as one of the most exciting stars in the UFC at the moment - will face the biggest test of his career to date when he steps into the octagon with a former world champion in Australian Whittaker.

Now fighting out of the United Arab Emirates, the vicious Chimaev is undefeated in 13 UFC bouts with 11 of his victories arriving by knockout or submission.

UFC's latest Fight Night card in Saudi Arabia also features an all-Russian heavyweight showdown between Alexander Volkov and Sergei Pavlovich, as well as an all-American welterweight clash between Kelvin Gastelum and Daniel Rodriguez.

Born in New Zealand but now fighting out of Australia, Robert Whittaker (26-7-0) is a seasoned competitor in the UFC who became middleweight champion in 2017 after a decision victory over Yoel Romero.

Whittaker eventually relinquished his middleweight belt to Israel Adesanya in 2019, but has since recorded impressive victories against the likes of Darren Till, Kelvin Gastelum, Marvin Vettori and Paulo Costa.

Currently ranked as the number three active middleweight in the UFC, Whittaker will have the chance to become a two-time champion of the division should he get past the formidable Chimaev in June's final eliminator showdown.

Whittaker has won 25 of his 32 bouts in the UFC, including nine knockout victories and five submissions.

Whittaker has been knocked out on three occasions in the UFC - by Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis - and been submitted once by Kim Hoon.

Khamzat Chimaev record

29-year-old Chimaev (13-0-0) has emerged as one of the most feared fighters in the UFC since entering the organisation in 2018, with the Chechen native overcoming former welterweight king Kamaru Usman in his last bout.

Chimaev also has commendable wins against Kevin Holland and Gilbert Burns on his record, with his upcoming fight against Robert Whittaker billed as a final eliminator for the UFC's middleweight title despite currently being ranked at number 11 in the division.

Formerly fighting out of Sweden, the country he moved to aged 18, Chimaev has won all 13 of his fights in the UFC, with six of these victories coming by knockout and five by submission.
