Katie Taylor undercard boxer speaks out on fight purse after crushing defeat

Irish Olympian Emmet Brennan has spoken out about his fight purse after he suffered the first defeat of his professional career on Saturday night.

Brennan - who represented his country in the light heavyweight division during the 2020 Games in Tokyo - featured on the undercard at Croke Park as Katie Taylor took to the ring for a final time.

The event marked the first time in more than half a century that boxing had been held at the home of Gaelic sports, with more than 80,000 fans in attendance as Taylor bowed over with a victory over France's Flora Pili.

Earlier in the evening Brennan faced off against unbeaten super middleweight prospect Taylor Bevan in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds.

From the opening bell Bevan took control of the contest, dropping Brennan four times before knocking him out cold 36 seconds into round five.

The Southampton-born prospect will now look towards challenging for domestic honours after he picked up the biggest win of his burgeoning career to date.

Meanwhile on Monday Brennan took to social media to address reports that he had been paid £60,000 for his efforts.

"60k would be worth getting knocked out for," Brennan wrote on X. "Sadly it was embarrassingly a lot less than that."

It remains to be seen where the 35-year-old will go with his professional career after tasting defeat for the first time.

Brennan is a former BUI Celtic light heavyweight champion, stopping the previously unbeaten Jamie Morrissey to win the title in November 2023.
