Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could be in line for a sensational return to management with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The prospect of a trophy-less season is not something that is taken lightly at Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti is the one bearing the brunt at the moment.
His side find themselves in a precarious position heading into their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg with Arsenal with Los Blancos requiring the comeback of all comebacks to progress.
Things are not too much rosier on the domestic front either.
Madrid find themselves four points behind bitter rivals Barcelona in La Liga and should they lose their Copa del Rey final assignment against the Blaugrana, fans will view the season as a failure.
All this has led to speculation over whether Ancelotti is the right man to continue to lead the club.
Less than 12 months on from leaving Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has been touted as a possible replacement for Ancelotti, according to Spanish media outlet Sport.
The 57-year-old announced last February that he would leave Liverpool and has been working as Red Bull’s head of global soccer since the turn of the year.
With some flagship Red Bull sides underperforming this season, the Real Madrid noise has only grew louder.
RB Leipzig are facing a battle to secure a top four spot in the Bundesliga, whilst Sturm Graz are looking likely to pip RB Salzburg to the Austrian Bundesliga title.
But the biggest factor could hinge on Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League tie with Arsenal.
Should Los Blancos fail in overturning a three-goal deficit to the London club, the pressure placed onto Ancelotti will surely reach its highest level.
With names such as Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola also touted for the position, Klopp is priced at 7/2 to be named as the next permanent Real Madrid manager.
bet365’s Sports and Trading expert Steve Freeth said: “Real Madrid have it to do to make it through to the semi-final after the 3-0 thumping by Arsenal in the first leg and Carlo Ancelotti will come under scrutiny if they fall short.
“Jurgen Klopp has only been in his new job at Red Bull for two minutes but that hasn’t stopped his odds of replacing Ancelotti tumbling from 33/1 into 7/2.”
