Jude Bellingham 6/4 to be England’s all-time leading midfield goalscorer

Winner of the 2023 Kopa Trophy and enjoying a phenomenal start to his Real Madrid career, we've priced up Jude Bellingham at 6/4 to surpass Frank Lampard's tally of 29 goals and become England's all-time leading midfield goalscorer.

If there were any concerns over Bellingham's ability to make the grade at Real Madrid, those doubts have been convincingly swatted away.

The midfield sensation has made an extraordinary start to life at the Santiago Bernabeu, scoring 13 goals in his first 14 appearances for Los Blancos.

From decisive goals against the likes of Union Berlin and Getafe, to a heroic match-winning brace in his first El Clasico, Bellingham has settled at his new club with incredible ease and endeared himself to a fanbase that demand excellence.

He’s already the 3/1 favourite to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or and at his current rate of progress, it’s hard to not see him remain in the Ballon d’Or conversation for many years to come.

Bellingham’s development has resulted in him becoming an essential figure in Gareth Southgate’s plans, with the former Birmingham City academy graduate expected to play a significant role in England’s charge at Euro 2024.

The 20-year-old has already savoured two major tournaments, having featured at Euro 2020 before emerging as a prominent figure in the 2022 World Cup, where he scored his first senior international goal.

Bellingham has since added one more England goal to his collection, capping a Man of the Match performance against Scotland with a clinical finish. His performance at Hampden Park came at a time when Southgate’s usage of Bellingham had altered.

Having operated in a reserved central midfield role during his three-year stint with Borussia Dortmund, Carlo Ancelotti has now unleashed the beast.

Deploying the youngster in an advanced midfield position, one that contains elements of a false nine role and offers greater attacking freedom, Bellingham has added goals to his repertoire.

Lampard was renowned for his goalscoring prowess; the ability to be in the right place at the right time and Bellingham is mirroring that at Real Madrid.

As such, Southgate has adopted a similar approach, utilising Bellingham in an advanced position. Whoever partners Declan Rice behind in the double pivot, whether it be Kalvin Phillips, Conor Gallagher or Jordan Henderson, they will offer England’s defence a layer of protection which provides Bellingham a licence to explore.

Lampard scored 29 international goals during his career, and should Bellingham enjoy similar longevity, it’s a target that’s well within his reach.

bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “Frank Lampard was a top quality goalscoring midfielder and Jude Bellingham may have only two full international goals to his name to date but the scope for him to carry on improving is off the scale right now.

“He’s got years left in the tank, he’s scoring for fun after taking to playing for arguably the biggest club in the world like a duck to water and he’d be long odds-on to win the Ballon d’Or over the next 10 years – he’s only 3/1 to win it next year.”
