Jordan Henderson injures wrist following England's dramatic victory

Veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson suffered a worrying wrist injury following England's memorable 3-2 World Cup Round of 16 win against Mexico.

The 36 year-old, who has featured in one of England's 2026 World Cup matches so far, was taken to hospital following a freak accident during the post-match celebrations.

Henderson did not suffer the injury during the match itself, instead falling awkwardly while attempting to climb over the advertising boards after celebrating with England supporters, following the final whistle at the Azteca.

The incident left him in visible agony, with Dan Burn flagging over medical staff, who rushed to the Brentford midfielder's aid.

England manager Thomas Tuchel later confirmed that the former Liverpool man appeared to sustain a serious wrist injury.

Speaking to reporters, Tuchel stated that the injury "looks really bad" and that the 36 year-old would remain in hospital, rather than join his teammates at their training base.

The England manager admitted that the incident was a "disappointing end" to an otherwise "unforgettable evening" for the Three Lions.

As a result of the injury, Henderson is unlikely to play no further part in England's World Cup campaign.

Two goals from Jude Bellingham and one from Harry Kane gave the Three Lions a famous win over Mexico, despite the red card to Jarrell Quansah in the second half.

Attention for Thomas Tuchel's side will now turn to their tantalising quarter-final contest with Norway, which will take place in Miami, on Saturday 11th July, kicking off at 22:00 BST.
