Our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt takes a look at Saturday's super-featherweight dust-up between Jordan Gill and Zelfa Barrett and reveals where the betting value can be found.
This time last year, Zelfa Barrett would’ve been a sizeable favourite, but after Jordan Gill looked revitalised in stopping Michael Conlan last time out, this is a fascinating match-up.
At 2/1, Gill remains the outsider, but with another camp under the tutelage of Ben Davison and co. under his belt, he’ll fancy his chances of producing another big performance. 11/2 for Gill to win by Decision/Technical Decision seems like a very generous price. Barrett can be outboxed, as Irishman Eric Donovan showed before getting his lights put out.
Former world title challenger Barrett is the naturally bigger man, and will look to use his range to control Gill at distance. For the Barrett backers, 5/2 for him to win by Decision/Technical Decision is also a touch wide for me.
I think this is a distance fight and I really like the price of 5/4 for the bout to go the full 12 rounds, but as far as picking a winner, for me the value play here is Jordan Gill to win by Decision/Technical Decision at 11/2.
