Jonbon next race: All roads lead to the Melling Chase

Jonbon will be looking to bounce back from Cheltenham disappointment with victory at Aintree.

The Champion Chase didn't quite happen for Jonbon at the Cheltenham Festival, denting his chances with a shuddering error six out.

He did rally close to home on for Nico de Boinville, but it was to little too late as Marine Nationale stormed up the hill to seal a second Festival success of his career. The winner has been confirmed by Barry Connell to be heading to the Punchestown Festival at the end of April.

Jonbon's Next Race

Aintree, a track where Jonbon has won three Grade 1s, will be where he heads next in an attempt to defend his Melling Chase crown. The step up to 2m4f seemed to suit last campaign as he repelled the challenge of both Conflated and Protektorat.

March's Cheltenham blunder hasn't put Nicky Henderson off running his star again this season.

“He’s fine, he’s got to go again and I think he would go to Aintree," said Henderson. "Two and a half miles certainly isn’t a worry."
