Joe Marler has said there "hasn't been enough stability" at Harlequins as the club battle to return to the European Champions Cup.
Despite two wins in their last three, Quins remains ninth in the Gallagher Prem after a poor season, meaning they need a result against table-topping Northampton Saints on the final day, and hope that Gloucester fail to beat rock-bottom Newcastle Red Bulls in order to return to next season's Champions Cup.
The two-time champions did finish second in their Champions Cup group with three wins from four, but were dumped out in the first knockout round, losing 26-17 at home to Sale Sharks with Will Evans and Jack Kenningham sent to the sin bin.
Giving his views on their struggles, former Harlequins prop Joe Marler speaking exclusively to bet365 at the talkSPORT Padel World Cup said: "Well they’ve been crap. It’s not been a good season for the boys, ninth with one game left to play, but they’ve still got some quality players in there in Marcus Smith, Alex Dombrandt and Cadan Murley."
Marler is hoping for a period of stability at The Stoop with head coach Jason Gilmore taking permanent charge of the club in March after Danny Wilson left Harlequins on the eve of the season. Rob Hunter is also set to join the club as forwards coach next season, with New Zealander Robbie Deans tasked with improving recruitment as the side's director.
"There just hasn’t been enough stability at the place for them to kick on and hopefully they can do that next year. Hopefully they can get a coaching group in place for a while and build around that core of Smith, Dombrandt and Murley."
