bet365's boxing expert Rob Tebbutt assesses the betting value ahead of a hotly anticipated all-British heavyweight showdown between Joe Joyce and Derek Chisora at London's O2 Arena.
Joe Joyce and Derek Chisora square-off at The O2 Arena on Saturday night in a heavyweight cross-roads fight between two of British boxing’s most entertaining sluggers.
A defeat for either man would surely spell the end of their top level ambitions, but for Joe Joyce, after back-to-back stoppage losses to China’s Zhilei Zhang in 2023 and a less-than-impressive performance in a comeback win over Kash Ali last time out, a loss would be unthinkable.
18 months ago, Joyce was riding high and knocking on the door of a world title shot. The losses to Zhang no doubt derailed him, but I’m tipping him to get back on track against an ageing, battle-worn Derek Chisora this weekend.
Chisora, a 47-fight veteran with two wins in his last six bouts, looked a shell of his former self in a cumbersome decision win over Gerald Washington back in August and fears that this may be “one fight too many” for the Finchley man may well be warranted.
I feel that Chisora’s come-forward style will play into Joyce’s hands and, ultimately, be the Finchley man’s downfall. At 40-years-old and after seventeen years as a professional, I expect Saturday night to be the final time we see Chisora in the ring with a world level heavyweight, with Joyce putting the final nail in the coffin of ‘War’ by KO somewhere in the middle rounds.
