Australian Football: Jets ready for fast take-off

Newcastle Jets defender Jordan Elsey says they are ready to come out with all guns blazing when they face Melbourne Victory on Saturday.

The Jets are priced at 7/2 to finish in the top six of the A-League this season and every game between now and the end of the campaign is massive.

Well rested

Newcastle have not played since hammering a dejected Perth Glory 6-1 last week and will face a different task altogether against a Victory side that are unbeaten in 10 games and sit in third place on the ladder.

Elsey says they are well prepared for the game against Tony Popovic’s side and know the start will be crucial.

"Getting off to a strong start is so important to us, we've been speaking about it all week," Elsey said ahead of the game. "All the boys are switched on and ready for that first whistle when we'll be coming out strong.

"We know when we play our football and do what we need to do we run over teams."

Increased intensity

Jets coach Arthur Papas agrees that the start of the game will be crucial. But he also says it is important they keep the intensity high for the whole game.

"The teams that Tony Popovic builds are always physically very good as well and you can see that in the results," Jets coach Arthur Papas said.

"The most important thing is that we play at our intensity.

"We also can play at a real high intensity and we need to play it for the full length of the match. The start will be important but also how the game finishes will be important as well physically."
