Jessica McCaskill v Lauren Price - Tale of the Tape: Weight, height, reach, trainer & professional boxing records

We analyse the credentials and statistics of Jessica McCaskill and Lauren Price as the Welsh fighter bids to become world champion in just her seventh fight by capturing the American's WBA welterweight title.

These days Olympic medallists are rightly pushed quicker in their careers than ever before.

The amount of experience accumulated in the amateur scene, fighting world-class opponents, and facing every style possible - not to mention winning a coveted Olympic medal - is enough to start your professional journey at levels beyond a traditional new kid on the block.

After two years and six fights as a professional, 2020 Olympic Gold medallist Lauren Price gets the chance to become a world champion when she challenges American veteran Jessica McCaskill for her WBA and WBC welterweight titles.

Has Price and her team made the move at the right time or will McCaskill’s nine years on the circuit and wealth of experience be too much to overcome?

Who will prevail this weekend?

It's time to take a look at the 'Tale of the Tape'…

Back-to-back wins against pound-for-pound talent Cecilia Braekhus, in 2020 and 2021, cemented Jessica McCaskill as not only the undisputed welterweight champion but one of the best female fighters in the world.

The first victory may have come as a surprise to many, but the rematch was a more emphatic outcome for the Illinois native.

In her two biggest fights since then McCaskill has fallen short in defeat to Chantelle Cameron and gaining a fortunate draw against Sandy Ryan - a bout in which the latter did more than enough to win.

McCaskill’s form makes her unified title defence against Price all the more important. A defeat in another high-profile bout may well signal the end of her career.

'CasKILLA' cannot be written off, however.

Having overcome a tough childhood and balancing boxing and a day job is proof alone that McCaskill is made of stern stuff.

But to beat Price she will have to turn back the clock three or four years and produce a performance that is, in truth, difficult to envisage.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

Vast experience

Carries left hand low

Front-foot pressure

Carries chin too high when throwing combinations

Upper-body movement

Punch distance

Unorthodox jab

Loses her shape during attacks

In Profile

Not only did Lauren Price win Olympic Gold in the middleweight division at the Tokyo Games but her run was one of the most impressive from any UK amateur in recent years.

Price now has her name in the history books having become the first Welsh boxer of any gender to win an Olympic Gold medal.

And since her professional debut in June 2022, she has adapted to her new code with relative ease and proved herself, once again, to be a ferocious competitor on the professional stage.

It was always only a matter of time before the 29-year-old would challenge for a world title, and receiving the opportunity to do so in Wales at the Cardiff International Arena will likely spur her on to even greater heights.

Make no mistake about it, Price is more than capable of delivering a performance that would elevate her to even greater heights. She has all the tools to one day be recognised as one of the best pound-for-pound female boxers in the world.

That said, this fight isn't a foregone conclusion however!

Jessica McCaskill will not back down or be intimidated by the prospect of facing Price in her own country.

But in boxing, timing can be everything, and this looks like the perfect moment for Price to add two world titles to the haul of medals she won over the years.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

Jab

Inexperienced at world level

Hand-speed

Occasionally over commits

Rarely wastes punches
