Australian Open champion Sinner is aiming to add the American major to his collection and comes into the tournament off the back of a superb week which saw him clinch the Cincinnati Open title.
Despite dropping the first set 6-2 to Mackenzie McDonald, the Italian bounced back to cruise through, going on to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2.
20-year-old Michelsen, ranked 49 in the world, will lean on home support as he bids to cause a major upset against the number one seed.

Having won the Cinininnati Masters, Sinner extended his winning streak to five matches in beating Mackenzie McDonald in the first round of the US Open.
Sinner and Michelsen have only met once before, with Sinner winning in straight sets.
