Burnley have completed the shock signing of Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy on a free transfer.
The Clarets have made a nightmare start to the 2026/27 campaign upon their return to the Championship, losing three and drawing two of their opening five fixtures.
Burnley enjoyed a busy summer transfer window -- with Anel Ahmedhodzic and Reo Hatate amongst their new additions -- but Zian Flemming's deadline day switch to Premier League outfit Ipswich Town undoubtedly left them short in the centre forward department.
While the transfer window is now shut, they've made use of the free agent market to add more depth in attack.
Burnley have confirmed the signing of Jamie Vardy on a one-year contract.
Upon his arrival, the 39-year-old expressed his excitement about joining the Lancashire outfit.
He said: “I’m really happy to now be here at Burnley FC. This club has a proper footballing history and passionate fans who deserve a team that represents them and their town.
"I can’t wait to get going on the pitch and help the team move in the right direction.”
Options were aplenty following Vardy's Leicester City departure in 2025, but he opted to join then Serie A outfit Cremonese on a one-year deal with the option for a further 12 months.
The two parties agreed not to proceed with the additional year, with Vardy leaving as a free agent after recording 10 Serie A goal contributions as the club suffered the drop to Serie B.
Wrexham reportedly made an approach to sign the centre forward on deadline day, while Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo had also expressed their desire to sign the striker earlier in the window, but it's Burnley who secured the signature of Vardy as his fairytale football career goes on.
