Jake Paul returns to action to fight a second consecutive former world champion, only this time his opponent will not be three decades his senior. Instead, Paul is tasked with former WBC middleweight champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., as he eyes up an audacious future challenge for the cruiserweight world titles.
Having weighed in at almost 230lbs to face Mike Tyson in November, YouTuber turned-boxer Paul (2/13) drops back down to the 200lb scene with the intention of achieving a top 15 world ranking in the near future. Although, it remains to be seen whether victory over Chavez (17/4) alone would merit such recognition.
The now 39-year-old has fought just six rounds since 2021, that lone outing representing a decision win over former UFC middleweight Uriah Hall last July.
Additionally, the fact that the Mexican lost out to Anderson Silva four years ago, who Paul overcame comfortably the following year, showed that Chavez was somewhat over the hill - even then.

Paul’s points win against ‘Iron Mike’ ended a run of three straight wins inside of the distance. However, there was a sense that the two-time heavyweight conqueror was left off the hook by Paul, who took his foot off the gas and opted not to push for the stoppage.
Although unproven against recognised and active cruiserweight contenders, Paul does possess sufficient power to end the contest early. Chavez’s inactivity, combined with a lack of experience in the 200lb division, means a knockout is well and truly on the cards.
Chavez has been halted twice during his professional career, at light-heavyweight and super-middleweight respectively, and a six-round triumph against Hall is hardly strong evidence to suggest that the Chavez of old is back.
Whilst his name and prior credentials carry some weight, it would be a major surprise to see Chavez upset the odds this weekend and we expect the size and fitness of Paul to prove too much.
All seven of Paul’s stoppages have come in the sixth round or sooner and we expect another dominant display with a similarly conclusive ending come Saturday night.

Against a well-selected dance partner, we believe Paul will need a couple of rounds to take a look at Chavez before he assumes control of the contest.
Comfortable both under the spotlight and at the weight, despite dropping almost 30 pounds from his last outing, Boxing News expects Paul to be able to outmuscle Chavez up close and in the clinches.
In uncharacteristic style for a fight that involves the proud fighting name of Chavez, we believe Paul will cap off a statement win with a conclusive ending around the mid-rounds.
