Former super-lightweight king Isaac Cruz will kick-off his quest to become a two-time champion of the world against Angel Fierro this weekend, and our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt provides his best bets for the Las Vegas staged showdown.
Isaac Cruz and Angel Fierro meet on the David Benavidez v David Morrell undercard in an all-Mexican fight that promises fireworks.
Cruz is making his return to the ring after losing his WBA super-lightweight title to Jose Valenzuela back in August, and faces a much more suitable style against Tijuana’s Fierro.
Aptly-named ‘Pitbull’, Cruz likes to come forward and put the pressure on, however, Fierro is a game, durable opponent so I can see this going a few rounds.
I do feel Cruz is somewhat overestimated as a puncher, with a lot of his stoppages coming against shop-worn or fragile fighters, so expect to see Fierro hanging tough and going the distance.
