Is Brian Madjo eligible to play for England?

It's important not to get carried away after just one senior appearance, but Brian Madjo's Aston Villa debut has sparked curiosity over his international allegiance.

Making his first start for the Villans since joining from FC Metz in a £10 million deal in January, Madjo starred against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup and scored a sublime equalising goal from a textbook John McGinn delivery.

The striker did miss a hatful of chances, but his persistence and endeavour was rewarded with a richly deserved first senior goal, and Madjo proved a handful for PSG central defender Willian Pacho, who simply had no answer to his brute strength.

Madjo's ability to hold his own against two top class operators in Pacho and Marquinhos will have been of great encouragement to Unai Emery and the prodigious forward is set to feature in the Spaniard's first-team plans for the forthcoming Premier League season.

While Aston Villa fans will no doubt be excited at the prospect of witnessing Madjo in a breakout season, the London-born forward has already been touted as England's long-term potential successor to Harry Kane.

Is Brian Madjo eligible to play for England?

Despite making three senior appearances for the Luxembourg national team, Madjo is eligible to play for England.

Hailing from London, the forward moved to Luxembourg as a child and represented the Benelux country at Under-15 and Under-16 level before making his senior debut in March 2025.

However, in September 2025, Madjo decided to switch his allegiance to England, which resulted in his first call-up to the Three Lions' Under-17s.

FIFA's eligibility rules permit players under the age of 21 to change nationalities if they've featured in no more than three competitive matches for one country.

All three of Madjo's appearances for Luxembourg were in friendlies as he featured against Sweden, Switzerland and Slovenia last year.
