Ipswich Town 2026/27 Premier League odds

Ipswich Town are back in the Premier League after the Tractor Boys sealed promotion from the Championship on the final day of the season.

Heading into their concluding fixture against QPR knowing their promotion fate was in their own hands, Ipswich extinguished any nerves around Portman Road inside three minutes as George Hirst scrambled the ball over the line to give the hosts an early lead.

There was pandemonium on the terraces of the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand just six minutes later as Jaden Philogene swivelled inside the box and placed a shot low into the bottom corner to put Ipswich out of sight and initiate the promotion party.

Kasey McAteer then delivered the icing on the cake in the latter stages as he finished from close range, prompting Kieran McKenna to embrace his coaching staff on the touchline.

Despite failing to live up to their billing as title favourites, Ipswich have still fulfilled their main objective of securing an immediate return to the Premier League and McKenna will be itching to test himself against the elite after a year of maturing and building.

The Suffolk outfit will be desperate to ensure their stay in the Premier League is longer than their previous experience, having been relegated from the top-flight with a measly 22 points in the 2024/25 season.

Title favourites on the eve of the season in August and odds-on to go up, it's not been a straight-forward season for Ipswich.

McKenna's men struggled to get up to speed in the early stages of the campaign and were winless from their opening four fixtures. An emphatic 5-0 victory over Sheffield United prior to the international break was an ominous warning to those at the top end of the table and while results did improve, Ipswich were still outside the top six at the end of November.

A fruitful December altered the complexion of their season. A 3-0 victory over table-topping Coventry City ignited belief amongst the Tractor Boys ranks and they followed it up with an important win over Stoke City, who at the time were lingering in the promotion picture.

Ipswich's inconsistencies were highlighted by a 3-1 defeat to Leicester City - the relegated Foxes took four points off them - but the team briefly surged up to second on New Year's Day following a win over Oxford United.

They had the scent of Coventry in their nostrils when Frank Lampard's men endured a wobble through January, but defeats to Sheffield United and Wrexham meant Ipswich were unable to capitalise before the Sky Blues built a head of steam.

While Ipswich were left to rue missed opportunities against Leicester, Stoke and Millwall, the Tractor Boys held their nerve at defining moments of the season. Jack Clarke's penalty against Middlesbrough - one of 10 spot kicks the club have been awarded - was crucial to preserving Ipswich's top two status and foiling Middlesbrough's automatic promotion charge.

With a return to the Premier League now secured, Ipswich will be hoping to make a better fist of it on this occasion.

Liam Delap scored 12 goals for McKenna's men during their brief top-flight stay and the Tractor Boys will certainly be in the market for a goalscorer, with only Jack Clarke (16), Jayden Philogene (11) and George Hirst (10) reaching double figures this season - we're excluding Anis Mehmeti on the grounds that eight of his 10 Championship goals were scored in a Bristol City shirt.

McKenna will also be eager to enhance a defensive unit that consists of the same personnel who conceded 82 goals in the Premier League.

The club spent just shy of £50m during last summer's transfer window, but they know they will have to dig deep into their pockets and recruit adequately if they're to replicate the success of Sunderland and Leeds United, who have demonstrated how clubs can bridge the gap between the Championship and Premier League.
