Ipswich Town agree €10m deal to sign Fulham centre back

Ipswich Town are set to make centre back Issa Diop their fourth signing of the summer transfer window.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna took to X to break the news that the Tractor Boys have 'reached an agreement' to sign the Fulham defender for a fee in the region of €10m.

The Moroccan international will sign a four-year deal at Portman Road providing that he passes his medical, which is set to take place on Monday 20th July.

Diop's arrival will mark Ipswich's fourth signing upon their return to the top-flight, joining alongside Emersonn, Chuba Akpom and Cedric Kipre.

Premier League

Diop joined West Ham for a then club-record £22m fee in June 2018, making 33 Premier League appearances in his debut campaign as the Hammers recorded a respectable 10th placed finish.

He enjoyed a similarly productive 2019/20 term, but played a lesser role in the following two campaigns before making the switch to Fulham in August of 2022.

A series of injuries have impeded his time in West London -- featuring on just 13 occasions in the 2025/26 league term -- but he did make 96 appearances in total for the Cottagers.

Diop joins Ipswich off the back of an impressive 2026 World Cup at the heart of the Morocco defence, where he featured on five occasions before his nation's quarter-final exit to France.

The Tractor Boys made the mistake of signing a number of players who were unproven in the Premier League upon their return to the top-flight in 2024/25, and the pending addition of Diop suggests that they don't want to make the same mistake again.

There remains plenty of work to be done at Portman Road if the club are serious about backing newly-appointed manager Gary O'Neil, who was appointed following Kieran McKenna's unexpected exit.
