Ipswich Town, Luton Town and MK Dons are the best-backed teams with bet365’s to win their respective leagues as the fixtures for the 2025/26 EFL season were announced on Thursday.
The Tractor Boys will get their campaign underway against newly promoted Birmingham City on Friday 8th August as they bid to return to the top flight at the first time of asking, while Luton take on AFC Wimbledon after suffering back-to-back relegations.
Well fancied last season, MK Dons will hope to be much improved under Paul Warne, and they get their League Two season up and running at home to newly promoted Oldham.
bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “Although Liam Delap has left Portman Road, Kieran McKenna remains in the hot-seat with 32% of the money placed in the Championship being on the Tractor Boys making hay this coming campaign.
“The Luton roller-coaster finds itself back in League One but the money is telling us that they could be on the up again with 41.7% of stakes being placed on the Hatters.
“With Paul Warne in the dugout and some impressive early signings, MK Dons’ outright odds have tumbled from 8/1 into 7/2, fuelled by over 6,000 wagers so far.
“The acquisitions of Gethin Jones and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing would be strong signings on their own, but the capture of Aaron Collins has really caught the eye of both punters and bookmakers.”
The Championship title race looks more open than it did a year ago when the heavily backed Leeds United repaid the punters’ faith in them, with Wrexham and Birmingham bringing plenty of financial backing to the division after their promotions last season, while Sheffield United, Coventry and Middlesbrough will vie with the relegated trio of Ipswich, Southampton and Leicester.
Although Matt Bloomfield was unable to stave off relegation after taking over at Kenilworth Road in January, the Hatters are warm favourites to win League One at 4/1 after suffering back-to-back relegations, with fellow relegated clubs Cardiff and Plymouth prominent in the betting.
League Two looks as competitive as ever with MK Dons heading the market at 7/2 ahead of Chesterfield (8/1), Notts County, Gillingham and Salford City (all 12/1).
The Dons were well fancied this time 12 months ago, but a poor start to the season cost Mike Williamson his job, and despite an impressive turnaround under Scott Lindsey, another downturn in results brought about a second dismissal of the season.
Three 0-0 draws and a 1-0 win means MK Dons are yet to concede a goal under new manager Paul Warne, who’s bidding for a remarkable fifth promotion in seven seasons.
