Kansas City Chiefs - Head Coach

Who is the head coach of Kansas City Chiefs?

Andy Reid

Head Coach Andy Reid is widely regarded as one of the most talented and successful coaches in the NFL.

Born in Los Angeles, California, in March 1958, Reid has gone on to enjoy a glittering coaching career, leading Kansas City to three Super Bowls during his fruitful reign at Arrowhead Field.

The 66-year-old will become the first coach in American Football history to achieve a Super Bowl three-peat if he is able to lead his charges to success against Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.

Reid played Offensive Tackle for Glendale Community College during his younger days, but injury dented his hopes of playing in the NFL.

However, he switched his attentions towards a coaching career however, and was part of the staff at the Green Bay Packers when they won the 1997 Super Bowl.

As a head coach, he spent 14 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, reaching the NFC Championship Game on six occasions, as well as going all the way to the 2004 Super Bowl, only for New England Patriots to end his hopes of victory.

He has discovered that long search for a winning formula in Kansas though, and is now eyeing up an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl ring after teeing up yet another Super Bowl appearance thanks to a dramatic AFC Championship Game success against the Buffalo Bills.

Kansas City Chiefs - Key Players

Who are the key players for the Kansas City Chiefs?

Patrick Mahomes (QB)

One of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, Patrick Mahomes has the opportunity to further cement his legacy in the 2025 Super Bowl.

Already a three-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Super Bowl MVP, the Texan will become the first quarterback to land a three-peat if he can guide the Chiefs to victory over Philadelphia.

Renowned for his on-field prowess and leadership qualities, Mahomes is a generational talent, who has helped revolutionise the game with his, at times, unorthodox throwing technique.

Featuring in a franchise record seven straight AFC Championship Games, he is also one of only five quarterbacks to have won three or more Super Bowl rings as a starter.

During the playoffs, Mahomes has thrown for 422 yards and two touchdowns.

Travis Kelce (TE)

For those not too familiar with the Chiefs, Travis Kelce, apart from being one of the finest tight ends to have graced the turf, is also the partner of pop superstar Taylor Swift.

Selected by Kansas in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Kelce has gone on to establish himself as one of the finest players to have ever donned Chiefs red, winning three Super Bowls with the franchise.

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football program, Kelce is a ten-time Pro Bowler and a seven-time All-Pro whilst he also holds NFL records for most consecutive and most overall seasons with 1,000 receiving yards by a tight end.

The 35-year-old boasts nine post-season receptions this year, scoring one touchdown, to add to his three scores throughout the regular season.

Chris Jones (DT)

Finishing the regular season with five sacks, 37 tackles, and one forced fumble, Chris Jones' typically superb defensive performances have earned him Pro Bowl and first team All-Pro honours.

The highest paid defensive tackle in NFL history, on the back of inking a $158.75 million deal last March, the 30-year-old - who is a one-club man - is regarded as the best DT in the league.

The Chiefs can attest to some of the best defenders in modern-day NFL history, but Jones has been the anchor of their dynastic run, earning Pro Bowl inclusions in each of the past six seasons and All-Pro accolades in the last five.

Kansas City Chiefs - History

What's the history of Kansas City Chiefs?

Founded in 1959 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), the team initially played in 1960 under the name Dallas Texans having been established by league founder Lamar Hunt.

In 1963, the franchise relocated to Kansas City and adopted its current name.

The Chiefs achieved notable success by reigning supreme in three AFL championships in 1962, 1966, and 1969, and they became the second AFL team, after the New York Jets, to triumph over an NFL team in a Super Bowl - defeating the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV, the last championship before the full merger of the leagues.

They were also the second team, following the Green Bay Packers, to participate in multiple Super Bowls and the first AFL team to do so, marking their presence in the championship game across two different decades.

Despite their early success however, the franchise struggled in the playoffs for many years, suffering ten losses in eleven post-season games between 1993 and 2018.

In recent years though the Chiefs have managed to snap that run, and in quite enthralling fashion too!

Rejuvenated under the guidance of esteemed head coach Andy Reid, the Patrick Mahomes inspired side have appeared in five Super Bowls, securing victories in three of them (2020, 2023 and 2024).
