Intercontinental Cup: Dates, teams, format and more

The Intercontinental Cup comprises the six teams that won the previous edition of the continental championships in each FIFA confederation.

Intercontinental Cup dates

The 2024 Intercontinental Cup started on 22nd September 2024, and the final is scheduled for Wednesday 18th December 2024.

The 2024 Intercontinental Cup final will see Real Madrid take on Pachuca on Wednesday 18th December 2024 in Qatar.

Intercontinental Cup format

The winner of the 2023/24 AFC Champions League hosts the winner of the 2024 OFC Champions League in the FIFA African–Asian–Pacific Cup play-off.

Subsequently, the winners of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League hosts the winners of the first round for the title of the FIFA African–Asian–Pacific Cup.

This aligns with the other fixture in round two, where the winners of the 2024 Copa Libertadores and the winners of the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup will play each other in Doha, Qatar, in a match that is known as the FIFA Derby of the Americas.

The two winners of the round two contests meet in the semi-final, also known as the FIFA Challenger Cup.

The winner of that meeting will play the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League winner in Lusail, Qatar.

2024 is the first edition of the Intercontinental Cup.

It is an annual competition, featuring the champions of the top club competitions of the six confederations, the AFC Champions League Elite, CAF Champions League, CONCACAF Champions Cup, Copa Libertadores, OFC Champions League and UEFA Champions League.
