India head into their three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka on the up, having edged a T20I series 2-1 against their visitors.

The opening two 20-over contests were tight affairs, before India were inspired by an amazing century from Suryakumar Yadav to a 91-run victory in the decider.

And the bad news for the Islanders is that a number of the Indian big names are back for the ODI action, having been left out as the selectors experimented in the shortest form of the game.

India welcome back wealth of experience

Captain Rohit Sharma is amongst the big names back in the fold for India for the three 50-over contests and he is joined by Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.

Those returnees lend a wealth of experience to the hosts, who are 12/5 to win the 50-over World Cup on home soil later this year.

However, despite so many long-term stars being back in the fold, it is Yadav who is currently the star attraction.

A latecomer to international cricket, the 32-year-old right-hander excelled in the recent T20I series, making 51 in the second match before blasting 112 not out from just 51 balls in the series decider.

The challenge now for Yadav, 9/2 to be Team - Top Batter on Tuesday, is to try and translate that form into the 50-over arena, having a top score of just 34 not out in his last nine ODI innings.

Ishan Kishan is another player to watch, with the 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter having recently made a stunning double century in a one-dayer in Bangladesh.

Kishan currently averages 51 in ODIs and with Rishabh Pant absent for the foreseeable future, he has a real opportunity to nail down a World Cup, potentially at the top of the order.

Having made 59 on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in July 2021, Kishan is 3/1 to be Team - Top Batter on Tuesday, while the ever masterful Kohli can be backed at 11/4.

With the ball, India had hoped to welcome back Jasprit Bumrah, but his back problems dictate that he is not quite ready to return to action.

In his absence, the returning Siraj and Shami will both be hoping to push their claims for inclusion at the World Cup later this year.

The fiery Siraj is a man in form, having taken 11 wickets across his last five one-day appearances and having returned to the ODI line-up just under a year ago after three years in the wilderness.

He is 7/2 to be Team - Top Bowler on Tuesday, with the vastly experienced Shami 10/3.

Islanders must be taken seriously

Sri Lanka are most definitely not a side to be underestimated in one-day international cricket, having earned series wins over South Africa, Zimbabwe and Australia before their recent drawn series at home to Afghanistan.

The mercurial Kusal Mendis was the star of the show against the Aussies, making 249 runs at an average of 83 as the Lankans claimed a superb 3-2 series victory, and he backed that up with 67 in one of his two innings against the Afghans.

He is 15/4 to be Team - Top Batter in Guwahati, with Pathum Nissanka available at 15/4, having made one century and four 50s in his last 11 ODI innings.

Skipper Dasun Shanaka, who has struggled for runs on the one-day arena, could also be worth watching after he impressed in the T20 internationals, slapping 124 runs at a strike-rate of 187.87.

With the ball, the Lankans will look to Wanindu Hasaranga for crucial breakthroughs, with the leg-spinner having taken at least two wickets in four of his last six ODI appearances.

He is 9/4 to be Team - Top Bowler on Tuesday, but will need to improve on a record of four wickets in five previous one-day outings against India.

Among the tourists’ seam bowlers, Kasun Rajitha picked up three wickets in each of his last two one-dayers, against Afghanistan, and has previous against India - having marked his T20I debut with two wickets in his first over just under seven years ago in Pune.
